The S&P/ASX200 Index retreated 0.5 percent as the Index saw red despite the Materials sector rallying 2.3 percent on Thursday.

Major banks reversed Wednesday’s gains as Commonwealth Bank of Australia (ASX:CBA) and National Australia Bank (ASX:NAB) both slid 1.6 percent, Macquarie Group (ASX:MQG) lost 0.7 percent, Australia and New Zealand Banking Group (ASX:ANZ) cut 0.2 percent and Westpac (ASX:WBC) dipped 0.1 percent.

Iron ore producers buck the trend as Fortescue Metals Group (ASX:FMG) skyrocketed 8.2 percent, BHP Group (ASX:BHP) soared 2.6 percent, Newcrest Mining (ASX:NCM) surged 2.4 percent and Rio Tinto (ASX:RIO) jumped 1.9 percent.

‘Buy-now, pay-later’ sector continues its slump as Splitit (ASX:SPT) nosedived 5.7 percent, Sezzle (ASX:SZL) plummeted 5.3 percent, Zip Co (ASX:Z1P) plunged 5.2 percent, Afterpay (ASX:APT) and Openpay (ASX:OPY) both dumped 2.4 percent.

‘Buy-now, pay-later’ sector reversed Tuesday’s gains as Zip Co (ASX:Z1P) dived 3.7 percent, Sezzle (ASX:SZL) plunged 3.1 percent, Afterpay (ASX:APT) plummeted 2.2 percent while Splitit (ASX:SPT) lifted 1.4 percent and Openpay (ASX:OPY) flatlined.
